Individual Therapy at The Community

Therapy office at The Community with a sofa, armchairs and a red rug.
Individual therapy at The Community is one-on-one work with a therapist in Alpharetta or by telehealth anywhere in Georgia. Rates are determined by individual clinicians. Each therapist’s rate is on their page. A limited number of reduced-fee sessions are available. Ask at your consult. We are currently accepting new clients. What makes it different is what it’s paired with: for our adult clients, individual therapy includes group, on a runway you and your therapist control, because insight without practice stalls.

Rates are set by individual clinicians and listed on each therapist’s page. Free 15-minute consult first, always.

01THE LOOP

How the Pairing Works

The work runs as a dynamic, each side reinforcing, strengthening, and energizing the other. This is not to say discovery never happens in group or practice never happens in individual therapy. Neither room replaces the other; the individual room is where the work gets found, and the group room is where it gets rehearsed until it holds. The groups themselves, formats, facilitators, and how enrollment works, are all on the groups page.

  1. 01ROOM ONE

    Discover it

You discover something in the individual room, where one therapist goes slowly and deeply into your particular history.

  2. 02ROOM TWO

    Practice it

You practice it in the group room, where the new behavior meets real people and real reactions at practice stakes.

  3. 03BACK AGAIN

    Keep what holds

Then you bring what happened back to your therapist, and the loop runs again, each pass turning insight into something you can actually do.

02A RUNWAY, NOT A SHOVE

The On-Ramp: No One Starts Group in Week One

The group expectation comes with a runway, not a shove. No one joins a group in their first week; movement toward group is the expectation of the therapeutic agreement, intake screens for readiness, and the timing is a decision you and your therapist make together. Some people are ready before intake, some in weeks, others need longer, and the pace belongs to the work rather than to a calendar. What we won’t do is let the second room quietly disappear, because the pairing is a basis of the treatment, not a feature of it.

04A MATCH, NOT A MENU

How We Work

Which of those shows up in your work depends on the therapist you’re matched with and what you’re carrying; the match conversation is where that gets sorted, not a menu.

Across the practice, our therapists draw on these approaches, among others:

  • CBT
  • DBT
  • EMDR
  • Self-psychology
  • IFS
  • EFT
  • Family systems
  • Person-centered
  • Motivational interviewing
  • Gottman-informed couples

Telehealth Across Georgia

Individual therapy is available by telehealth anywhere in Georgia, with the same fees and the same pairing model. If you’re outside the Alpharetta area, telehealth can carry the individual side of the work, and three of our groups meet virtually: The Lunch Bunch, the Tuesday Process Group, and Anger Management.

Why Build Around Connection?

Roughly half of adults in the United States report loneliness, a figure the U.S. Surgeon General’s 2023 advisory on loneliness and isolation put on the record. The full research case for pairing individual work with community is on our why community page.

06ASKED AND ANSWERED

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to join a group?

For adult clients, yes, with a runway: individual therapy at The Community includes group, because the pairing is how the model works. Nobody starts in week one. Intake screens for readiness, movement toward group is the expectation of the therapeutic agreement, and you and your therapist decide the timing together.

When would I start group?

When you and your therapist agree you’re ready, and not before. There’s no fixed week on a calendar: intake screens for readiness at the start, the individual work builds toward it, and the move happens when the two of you decide the group room will help rather than overwhelm. The on-ramp exists precisely so the answer can be honest.

Can I do individual therapy only?

Honestly: not long-term, because group is part of how we work with adult clients here. If staying individual-only is what’s right for you, that’s a legitimate choice, and we’ll help you find a great fit elsewhere rather than bend the model or waste your time. The free 15-minute consult is where that conversation happens openly.

Do you see teenagers?

Teen clients work individually with Erica or Grey. Teens never join adult groups; as our teen community grows, we form groups specifically for them. We are accepting new clients for individual sessions for teens 14 and up, on the same fees, in Alpharetta or by telehealth anywhere in Georgia.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes, anywhere in Georgia, for individual, couples, and family sessions, at the same fees as in-person work. Three of our groups meet virtually as well: The Lunch Bunch, the Tuesday Process Group, and Anger Management. If distance is the thing standing between you and starting, say so on the first call and we’ll build the plan around telehealth from the beginning.

How much does individual therapy cost?

Individual sessions run $150 to $165 per hour, depending on the clinician, and each therapist’s rate is on their page. A limited number of reduced-fee sessions are available, and spots vary by therapist, so ask at your consult. Your fee includes a group at your individual frequency; group sessions beyond that frequency are $10 each. We don’t bill insurance. At your request, we can provide superbills you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. The full breakdown, including how reduced-fee sessions work, is on our pricing page.
